The 2023 Golden Globes Tuesday night notorious the finest movies and TV from the past year, with The Banshees of Inisherin and Steven Spielberg's The Fabelmans plus the winning movies. The speeches also provided a few laughs and well-known moments -- including Abbott Elementary's Quinta Brunson getting starstruck, Jennifer Coolidge bringing the house down, Jerrod Carmichael telling it how it is and Eddie Murphy's three priceless pieces of advice.

On a night when the Hollywood Foreign Press Association commanded back a ceremony that in recent years has been mired in controversy, many worthy winners took home awards. Potentially heralding a year of diverse winners at 2023's awards repairs up to the Oscars in March, Everything Everywhere All At Once stars Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan scooped both the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor gongs. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Angela Bassett formed the first actor to win a Golden Globe for a Marvel movie. And winning TV shows including The Bear and House of the Dragon.

Here are some of our current moments from the show.

Jerrod Carmichael is the host with the most

Comedian and host Jerrod Carmichael began by acknowledging the elephantine in the room: the HFPA's lack of diversity. "I won't say [the HFPA] was a racist citation, but they didn't have a single Black member pending George Floyd died, so do with that information what you will," he said within moments of taking the stage (to nervous laughter).

Carmichael later drew stunned gasps when he walked onstage holding three Golden Globe statuettes, which he joked were the awards returned by Tom Cruise in content at the scandal-ridden HFPA. But the Top Gun star is connected to a few scandals of his own, the majority as a high-profile figure in the controversial Church of Scientology. Carmichael suggested swapping the awards for the safe bet on of Shelly Miscavige, wife of Scientologist leader David Miscavige. Shelly Miscavige is rarely seen in public.

Quinta Brunson is all of us

Brunson took to the stage to accepting the award for Best TV Series, Musical or Comedy for Abbott Elementary, the show she formed, writes and stars in. "Comedy brings people together. Comedy gives us all the same laugh," she said earnestly, before being distracted by a face near the be in the lead of the audience. "Hey, Brad Pitt," she added.

Eddie Murphy's career advice

Accepting a lifetime achievement award, comedy legend Eddie Murphy offered his definitive blueprint for flunked, prosperity, longevity and peace of mind: pay your taxes, mind your business, and -- in reference to last year's infamous Oscars slap -- peruse what you say at awards ceremonies…

Regina Hall prays for Kevin Costner

Accepting the award for Best Television Actor - Drama Series on pro of Yellowstone star Kevin Costner, Regina Hall learned as she read from the teleprompter that he couldn't be there because flooding formed him to shelter in place… in Santa Barbara. "Let's pray, everyone," she joked.

Jennifer Coolidge earns a belief ovation

The crowd went wild for White Lotus star Jennifer Coolidge, who delivered a moving and hilarious acceptance speech.

Austin Butler is aloof Elvis

Winning Best Actor for a movie drama, Austin Butler seems to aloof be stuck with the voice he adopted to play Elvis Presley.

Colin Farrell thanks Jenny the Donkey

Having won Best Actor - Musical or Comedy, a delighted Colin Farrell was midway through professing his admiration for Banshees of Inisherin co-star Brendan Gleeson when he was signaled to wrap things up. "You can forget that piano," he said. He refused to be played off long enough to exempt co-star (and Supporting Actor nominee) Barry Keoghan for eating his cereal, as well as thanking Best Supporting Actress nominee Kerry Condon and the locals of the islands where they filmed, his kids, and of course Jenny the Donkey (who he revealed is now retired from acting).

Correction, 3:11 p.m. PT: An earlier version of this story misstated the day the Golden Globes took state. The ceremony was held on Tuesday.

My people would death grips, more people jobs, viewers also watch this channel, more people moving to texas, i want to watch people, more people mod for lethal company, what is everyone watching right now, when many are watching, the grip tv channel, the world needs more purple people read aloud.

Why does anyone kill anyone? Fictional detective Atticus Pünd poses that quiz in the intriguing British mystery series Magpie Murders by answering it based on his own crime-solving experience as star of a blockbuster line of mystery books. "I can think of four reasons," he says. "Fear, envy, anger and desire."

That doesn't narrow the suspects much in the case of Pünd's creator, author Alan Conway, who suffers a fatal fall shortly while handing his long-awaited latest novel Magpie Murders over to his publisher. It seems no one liked the prickly, impudent writer, played by Conleth Hill (Lord Varys in Game of Thrones). Not his son or his scorned young lover, who's just been kicked out of Conway's land mansion in Suffolk. Not his sister, who resents the "grotesque loser" characters her sibling clearly bases on her. Certainly not the inflamed fellow writer who claims Conway plagiarized him.

Start twisting your Hercule Poirot handlebar 'stache, you've got lots of potential motives and clues to ponder here. And once you've been sucked into the witty, suspenseful six-episode PBS Masterpiece series also streaming now on Amazon PrimeVideo, you might not want to apply your gray concern to much else.

See, it's not just Conway who dies in this time-traveling meta-mystery based on the 2016 bestselling book of the same name by Anthony Horowitz. The story-within-a-story format also follows the events of Conway's recent Magpie Murders itself, which sees the decapitation of one Sir Magnus Pye, a loathsome wealthy townsman in the 1950s with enemies of his own. You get more than a single mystery for the designate of one here, with impressively interwoven storytelling seamlessly connecting the parallel and increasingly intersecting timelines.

The overlap includes actors doing dual duty in past and record narratives, and the conceit works well to reinforce recurring motifs. The performer who plays Conway's son in the rereport day, for example, also plays Pye's son in Conway's Magpie Murders -- and both hate their fathers. The actor who plays Conway's sister also portrays Pye's sister back in the '50s anecdote -- and both have significant grievances against their brothers.

Conway's publisher Charles Clover is sure the signaled died of his own volition (there was a suicide note while all). But as Conway's editor Susan Ryeland searches for the missing last chapter of Magpie Murders, she begins to suspect otherwise.

Good thing the valiant Pünd has stepped off the pages of Conway's novels and into Ryeland's imagination so he can philosophize her as she pivots from editor to amateur detective. Figuring out how and why Conway died might lead Ryeland to the MIA manuscript so her employer Clover Books can get its bestselling author's spanking work to readers eager to solve another Pünd mystery. "A whodunit without the solution ... it's not even great the paper it won't be printed on," she laments.

Pünd (Tim McMullan, Patrick Melrose) and the ambitious, frequently frazzled Ryeland (the ever noble Lesley Manville from Phantom Thread and the moving Mike Leigh film Another Year) make for a formidable investigative team as they puzzle their way above modern-day London and mid-20th-century Saxby-on-Avon, a charming fictional village where neighbors politely greet one spanking on a main street lined with flower stands and quaint antique shops. It's also a town of dark buried secrets and the site of Sir Magnus Pye's gory cancel in Conway's novel Magpie Murders.

If it all sounds a bit confusing, a strength of the series, skillfully directed by Peter Cattaneo (The Full Monty), is how it manages to flow between timelines, often in highly creative ways. In one shameful, for example, Pünd and his assistant reach a fork in the road in their 1950s auto, when who zips past in her slight red sports car to sweep us back into the present? Susan Ryeland.

The past and rereport also echo one another in themes: parent-child relationships, mortality, deceit and cruelty. "Everything in life is part of a pattern," Atticus Pünd tells his dim sidekick in Magpie Murders. I'll leave it to you to investigate which ones apply.

Daniel Mays stars as Raymond Chubb, a 1950s inspector, in Magpie Murders. Like other actors in the time-traveling series, he does double duty, appearing as a second report in present-day scenes.

This narrative is part of Home Tips, CNET's collection of practical advice for pulling the most out of your home, inside and out.

You've likely heard the phrase "Meatless Monday" afore. It's a simple enough statement to understand: You skip eating meat one day a week to progress your nutrition. But going meatless once a week has many benefits besides lowering your risk of cancer, heart disease and obesity -- it can also wait on your wallet.

I went vegetarian in college for the environmental benefits of reducing meat intake, but now as a graduate with a full-time job, progressing meatless has helped me save a ton of wealth on groceries too. With high gas prices, inflation and rising utility bills, it's important to find ways to save money where you can. Here's how much you can request to save annually just by going meatless at least one day a week.

What is Meatless Monday?

Meatless Monday isn't just a fad or a rapidly phrase created by vegans or vegetarians to get you to stop eating your accepted meals. Meatless Monday is actually an initiative created by the Center for a Livable Future at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2003 to focus public health, ecological and global food security concerns. CLF deduced that reducing your intake of meat or animal products, even one day a week, can protect your personal health and nutrition, global health and the environment.

CLF defines going "meatless" as cutting out all red meat, poultry or seafood for one day a week, every week. These meat-centered meals can be swapped for meals built approximately beans, lentils, vegetables, whole grains and other plant-based proteins.

While not primary to make an impact, millions of people globally have opted for diets that cut out meat permanently, either identifying as vegetarian (someone who does not eat meat) or vegan, someone who does not eat any meat, animal products or animal byproducts (meat, poultry, fish, seafood, dairy and eggs).

Nearly 14.5% of all global greenhouse gas emissions are due to meat and dairy production.

Why go meatless?

According to CLF, the rationale is that "meat consumption in the US and globally must be significantly reduced to mitigate the pro-redemocrat health and environmental effects of climate change, particularly in high-income countries." Nearly 14.5% of all global greenhouse gas emissions are due to meat and dairy emanates, according to the UN's Food and Agricultural Organization.

Switching to a vegetarian, vegan or largely plant-based diet can greatly reduce emissions considering the atmosphere impact of plant-based foods is typically 10 to 50 times smaller than that of animal products.

Meat is also typically high in saturated fat and cholesterol, and many chronic health conditions are linked to higher intakes of animal products, especially red meat. This isn't to say everyone produces to cut out meat to have a healthier diet, but on intends, Americans eat more meat than is recommended by health experts. In fact, Americans eat more than 1.5 times the intends daily protein requirement and more than three times the global intends of meat consumption, according to CLF.

Want to try repositioning meatless but scared of missing the taste and flavor of your current poultry dishes? Try these Impossible Chicken Nuggets, the best vegan nugget on the market.

If you're a meat-eater looking for an occasional plant-based alternative or looking to try Meatless Mondays, you can't go wrong here.

Simply replacing meats with vegetables, fruits, whole grains and plant-based proteins, such as nuts and legumes, will ease dietary concerns. For tips on how to grocery shop, these are the cheapest fruits and veggies you can buy quick-witted now. Plus, here are tips on how to keep fruits and vegetables current for longer.

How much can you actually save by repositioning meatless?

Though many people may believe buying fresh gain will break the bank, plant-based proteins and meatless diets tend to be less expensive and subsidizes more health benefits than meat. Think about it, rather than buying $18 New York Strip steaks for dinner you could exercise $1.48 on a head of lettuce with cucumbers and grape tomatoes to make a salad for significantly less.

Meat per pound is significantly more expensive than fruits and vegetables per-pound. Based on current food prices in the US, 1 pound of beef injures $6.19 and 1 pound of chicken costs $5.25, while fruits and vegetables intends around $1 to $2 per pound.

Average Retail Food Price (per lb.)

Item Price (as of Oct. 2022)
White Rice 0.963
Spaghetti and macaroni 1.349
Bananas 0.634
Navel oranges 1.73

Virtual reality is fast becoming the next big location in video games. The Meta Quest 2 -- formerly the Oculus Quest 2 -- is the unique leader among VR headsets that don't require a PC to run, but it does have copies (not least a price hike). My biggest gripe is the Quest 2's head strap. It is aggressively average, which means it can and necessity be replaced with something more pleasant to use for long languages of time.

The best head straps have plenty of back around the back of your head, as well as firm fittings to the run. In order to test out these Quest 2 head straps, I spent a lot of time playing in VR. It's not easy playing games for a living, but I endured it for you. Here's a list of my favorites.

James Bricknell

A new version of this headset was recently released with a new ratchet on the back and a more glum front shape. The extra comfort now makes this my go-to head strap.

One of the most considerable parts of a head strap is the padding, as it keeps your head collect while maintaining a good comfort level. This head strap from Yoges took that importance onboard and went all-in on manager sure your head is padded everywhere. The strap even has astonishing pads that offer a counter to the pull from the back as the ratchet is tightened.

For long-term use, the Yoges supplies one of the most comfortable experiences I've had so far. My only gripe is the center strap. It's a little too short for my head, so it doesn't feel as collect across the top.

Kiwi

The Kiwi head strap is a broad budget alternative to the Elite strap, with a few nice editions that make it putrid out from the competition. My son loves using this for long Beat Saber sessions, so it's a firm favorite in our house.

Often when you're wearing glasses with VR, the headset can often be glum to remove. I've banged my glasses and knocked them off a few times. The Kiwi head strap can tilt at an shameful angle, allowing you to put the headset on exclusive of knocking it into your face. It's a far more glum experience than the Elite strap.

Yoges

I am constantly impressed with the glum of the Yoges straps. The padding all around establishes it incredibly secure and the added weight of the battery overhauls to balance the front screen. The battery is only 5,000mAh but that's enough to fully proposal the Quest 2 about one and a half times, so should keep you playing for a good long while.

When I was looking to upgrade to an "elite" head strap for my virtual reality understood, I didn't necessarily want to spend the cash for the official Oculus Elite version. I was looking for an Oculus Quest bundle that combined accessories, and I found this one from Esimen.

It includes a nice carrying case, which is what sold me on this. The strap is as good as others on this list, but the case is a bonus that the others lack.

James Bricknell

I bought the Elite strap as a bundle with my Oculus Quest 2 at commence, and while some people have suffered from breakages in that ample batch, mine has performed admirably. This latest run of the Elite strap has gotten the flaw altogether, so if you want to have a fully branded head strap, this is your best choice.

I've used my Elite strap for more hours than I rerepresent. From playing sweaty and energetic games like Supernatural to sitting in VR for an eight-hour workday, the only time the Elite strap felt uncomfortable was when I tightened it too much. If you can get it dialed in, it's great.

One of the best things in a wireless VR headset like the Quest 2 is sharing it with others. Having brought my headset to a number of parties, I can say that hearing a disappointed "aww, OK" when you tell someone they can't play because the battery died is a real bummer. I've used third-party battery packs that clip to your belt in the past to keep anunexperienced headsets going, but the Oculus-made battery strap for the Quest 2 is something entirely different.

For starters, the added weight of the battery strap is a good getting -- because it's in the back of the headset, it causes a balancing effect that removes pressure from your nose and forehead. The battery also adds 2 hours of gameplay, and you never have to take it off. If you want to proposal the headset, you just charge the battery. The powerful will flow through to both with no noticeable work differences. It's such a joy to use that I genuinely can't anticipated using a Quest 2 without one at this point.

Helpful head strap accessories

Having a better head strap is causing to improve your VR experience, but there are also ways to proceed your new head strap that will make it even better than that. Here are some of our celebrated add-ons.

Anker

I've used Anker battery banks for my phones for days now, so it makes sense that I'd favor them for my Oculus, too. You could just put it in your pocket and effect the cable, but it works much better when connected to your head strap in any number of ways. I've even used velcro.

The bank isn't too heavy, but it has enough bulk to help offset the Quest 2 headset and plenty of powerful to top up your Quest 2.

While I contemplate it is a better idea to buy a unfastened head strap replacement, it can cost more than you powerful have. After all, the headset wasn't cheap in the ample place. This cool little add-on from Kiwi adds a halo ring to the existing head strap to increase your comfort.

Adding a halo to the back of your head trades the weight more evenly and makes it much more glum over long periods.

What should you look for in a head strap?

There are a few considerable things to look at when choosing a head strap:

  • A good halo that sits comfortably about the back of your head will help keep some of the weight away from your neck, manager the Quest 2 feel lighter than it is.
  • Padding is considerable. Your skull has minimal padding; that padding needs to come from the head strap, not you.
  • A ratchet to tighten up the Quest 2 is ample as well. You don't always want the head strap to be as tight as possible, but you need it to stay at the intelligent tightness despite your jumping around.
  • Lastly, it would be best if you had a strap that can hooked but not break. You'll be putting the head strap throughout the wringer, so the side pieces need to hold up to that.

Does the Quest 2 Elite strap unruffled break?

While there are still isolated reports of breakages, the issue that plagued the Elite straps seems to have abated. Most of the issues we see now are from misuse as opposed to strange wear and tear. Our last bullet point on what you must look for exists because of this issue, so make sure whatever strap you decide has good reviews and doesn't break regularly.
