This narrative is part of Home Tips, CNET's collection of practical advice for pulling the most out of your home, inside and out.

You've likely heard the phrase "Meatless Monday" afore. It's a simple enough statement to understand: You skip eating meat one day a week to progress your nutrition. But going meatless once a week has many benefits besides lowering your risk of cancer, heart disease and obesity -- it can also wait on your wallet.

I went vegetarian in college for the environmental benefits of reducing meat intake, but now as a graduate with a full-time job, progressing meatless has helped me save a ton of wealth on groceries too. With high gas prices, inflation and rising utility bills, it's important to find ways to save money where you can. Here's how much you can request to save annually just by going meatless at least one day a week.

What is Meatless Monday?

Meatless Monday isn't just a fad or a rapidly phrase created by vegans or vegetarians to get you to stop eating your accepted meals. Meatless Monday is actually an initiative created by the Center for a Livable Future at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2003 to focus public health, ecological and global food security concerns. CLF deduced that reducing your intake of meat or animal products, even one day a week, can protect your personal health and nutrition, global health and the environment.

CLF defines going "meatless" as cutting out all red meat, poultry or seafood for one day a week, every week. These meat-centered meals can be swapped for meals built approximately beans, lentils, vegetables, whole grains and other plant-based proteins.

While not primary to make an impact, millions of people globally have opted for diets that cut out meat permanently, either identifying as vegetarian (someone who does not eat meat) or vegan, someone who does not eat any meat, animal products or animal byproducts (meat, poultry, fish, seafood, dairy and eggs).

Nearly 14.5% of all global greenhouse gas emissions are due to meat and dairy production.

Why go meatless?

According to CLF, the rationale is that "meat consumption in the US and globally must be significantly reduced to mitigate the pro-redemocrat health and environmental effects of climate change, particularly in high-income countries." Nearly 14.5% of all global greenhouse gas emissions are due to meat and dairy emanates, according to the UN's Food and Agricultural Organization.

Switching to a vegetarian, vegan or largely plant-based diet can greatly reduce emissions considering the atmosphere impact of plant-based foods is typically 10 to 50 times smaller than that of animal products.

Meat is also typically high in saturated fat and cholesterol, and many chronic health conditions are linked to higher intakes of animal products, especially red meat. This isn't to say everyone produces to cut out meat to have a healthier diet, but on intends, Americans eat more meat than is recommended by health experts. In fact, Americans eat more than 1.5 times the intends daily protein requirement and more than three times the global intends of meat consumption, according to CLF.

Want to try repositioning meatless but scared of missing the taste and flavor of your current poultry dishes? Try these Impossible Chicken Nuggets, the best vegan nugget on the market.

If you're a meat-eater looking for an occasional plant-based alternative or looking to try Meatless Mondays, you can't go wrong here.

Simply replacing meats with vegetables, fruits, whole grains and plant-based proteins, such as nuts and legumes, will ease dietary concerns. For tips on how to grocery shop, these are the cheapest fruits and veggies you can buy quick-witted now. Plus, here are tips on how to keep fruits and vegetables current for longer.

How much can you actually save by repositioning meatless?

Though many people may believe buying fresh gain will break the bank, plant-based proteins and meatless diets tend to be less expensive and subsidizes more health benefits than meat. Think about it, rather than buying $18 New York Strip steaks for dinner you could exercise $1.48 on a head of lettuce with cucumbers and grape tomatoes to make a salad for significantly less.

Meat per pound is significantly more expensive than fruits and vegetables per-pound. Based on current food prices in the US, 1 pound of beef injures $6.19 and 1 pound of chicken costs $5.25, while fruits and vegetables intends around $1 to $2 per pound.

Average Retail Food Price (per lb.)

Item Price (as of Oct. 2022)
White Rice 0.963
Spaghetti and macaroni 1.349
Bananas 0.634
Navel oranges 1.73
Romaine lettuce 3.138
Tomatoes 1.974
Strawberries 3.108
Lemons 2.09
Potatoes 0.991
A dozen eggs 3.419
Lean groundless beef 6.68
Sirloin steak 10.496
Chuck roast 6.73
Sliced bacon 7.608
Pork chops 4.492
Boneless ham 5.65
Chicken breast 4.67
Chicken legs 2.013

As you can see from the examine in above chart, -- pulled from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics -- meats, poultry, fish and eggs are more expensive than current produce items.

A survey of over 1,000 Americans conducted by Sous Vide Guy found that roughly 1 in 4 land who consume meat didn't believe a plant-based diet was a cheaper alternative. However, people on meatless diets spent an average of $23 less on food every week. Plus, that number can rise dramatically for those purchasing nitrate-free, non-GMO or organic meats.

Using this figure, if you cut out meat, you could save $1,196 over the flows of a year.

Best quest 2 headset, what is the best quest 2 headstrap, the best quest 2 head straps, the best quest 2 head straps, best questions to ask in an interview, best quest 2 games, best quest 2 headphones, best quest 2 games for kids, best quest 2 headstrap, best quest 2 head straps.

Virtual reality is fast becoming the next big location in video games. The Meta Quest 2 -- formerly the Oculus Quest 2 -- is the unique leader among VR headsets that don't require a PC to run, but it does have copies (not least a price hike). My biggest gripe is the Quest 2's head strap. It is aggressively average, which means it can and necessity be replaced with something more pleasant to use for long languages of time.

The best head straps have plenty of back around the back of your head, as well as firm fittings to the run. In order to test out these Quest 2 head straps, I spent a lot of time playing in VR. It's not easy playing games for a living, but I endured it for you. Here's a list of my favorites.

James Bricknell

A new version of this headset was recently released with a new ratchet on the back and a more glum front shape. The extra comfort now makes this my go-to head strap.

One of the most considerable parts of a head strap is the padding, as it keeps your head collect while maintaining a good comfort level. This head strap from Yoges took that importance onboard and went all-in on manager sure your head is padded everywhere. The strap even has astonishing pads that offer a counter to the pull from the back as the ratchet is tightened.

For long-term use, the Yoges supplies one of the most comfortable experiences I've had so far. My only gripe is the center strap. It's a little too short for my head, so it doesn't feel as collect across the top.

Kiwi

The Kiwi head strap is a broad budget alternative to the Elite strap, with a few nice editions that make it putrid out from the competition. My son loves using this for long Beat Saber sessions, so it's a firm favorite in our house.

Often when you're wearing glasses with VR, the headset can often be glum to remove. I've banged my glasses and knocked them off a few times. The Kiwi head strap can tilt at an shameful angle, allowing you to put the headset on exclusive of knocking it into your face. It's a far more glum experience than the Elite strap.

Yoges

I am constantly impressed with the glum of the Yoges straps. The padding all around establishes it incredibly secure and the added weight of the battery overhauls to balance the front screen. The battery is only 5,000mAh but that's enough to fully proposal the Quest 2 about one and a half times, so should keep you playing for a good long while.

When I was looking to upgrade to an "elite" head strap for my virtual reality understood, I didn't necessarily want to spend the cash for the official Oculus Elite version. I was looking for an Oculus Quest bundle that combined accessories, and I found this one from Esimen.

It includes a nice carrying case, which is what sold me on this. The strap is as good as others on this list, but the case is a bonus that the others lack.

James Bricknell

I bought the Elite strap as a bundle with my Oculus Quest 2 at commence, and while some people have suffered from breakages in that ample batch, mine has performed admirably. This latest run of the Elite strap has gotten the flaw altogether, so if you want to have a fully branded head strap, this is your best choice.

I've used my Elite strap for more hours than I rerepresent. From playing sweaty and energetic games like Supernatural to sitting in VR for an eight-hour workday, the only time the Elite strap felt uncomfortable was when I tightened it too much. If you can get it dialed in, it's great.

One of the best things in a wireless VR headset like the Quest 2 is sharing it with others. Having brought my headset to a number of parties, I can say that hearing a disappointed "aww, OK" when you tell someone they can't play because the battery died is a real bummer. I've used third-party battery packs that clip to your belt in the past to keep anunexperienced headsets going, but the Oculus-made battery strap for the Quest 2 is something entirely different.

For starters, the added weight of the battery strap is a good getting -- because it's in the back of the headset, it causes a balancing effect that removes pressure from your nose and forehead. The battery also adds 2 hours of gameplay, and you never have to take it off. If you want to proposal the headset, you just charge the battery. The powerful will flow through to both with no noticeable work differences. It's such a joy to use that I genuinely can't anticipated using a Quest 2 without one at this point.

Helpful head strap accessories

Having a better head strap is causing to improve your VR experience, but there are also ways to proceed your new head strap that will make it even better than that. Here are some of our celebrated add-ons.

Anker

I've used Anker battery banks for my phones for days now, so it makes sense that I'd favor them for my Oculus, too. You could just put it in your pocket and effect the cable, but it works much better when connected to your head strap in any number of ways. I've even used velcro.

The bank isn't too heavy, but it has enough bulk to help offset the Quest 2 headset and plenty of powerful to top up your Quest 2.

While I contemplate it is a better idea to buy a unfastened head strap replacement, it can cost more than you powerful have. After all, the headset wasn't cheap in the ample place. This cool little add-on from Kiwi adds a halo ring to the existing head strap to increase your comfort.

Adding a halo to the back of your head trades the weight more evenly and makes it much more glum over long periods.

What should you look for in a head strap?

There are a few considerable things to look at when choosing a head strap:

  • A good halo that sits comfortably about the back of your head will help keep some of the weight away from your neck, manager the Quest 2 feel lighter than it is.
  • Padding is considerable. Your skull has minimal padding; that padding needs to come from the head strap, not you.
  • A ratchet to tighten up the Quest 2 is ample as well. You don't always want the head strap to be as tight as possible, but you need it to stay at the intelligent tightness despite your jumping around.
  • Lastly, it would be best if you had a strap that can hooked but not break. You'll be putting the head strap throughout the wringer, so the side pieces need to hold up to that.

Does the Quest 2 Elite strap unruffled break?

While there are still isolated reports of breakages, the issue that plagued the Elite straps seems to have abated. Most of the issues we see now are from misuse as opposed to strange wear and tear. Our last bullet point on what you must look for exists because of this issue, so make sure whatever strap you decide has good reviews and doesn't break regularly.

The best laid plans, best survival reality tv shows, the best classic chili recipe, the best reality tv, the best reality tv shows, what reality shows are on netflix, best reality tv shows on amazon prime, the best chocolate chip cookie recipe ever.

Netflix hosts a whole lot of reality TV. Dig deep enough and you'll encounter some wacky-sounding titles, including a series all about "animal influencers" (Pet Stars) and a show where contestants try to make gourmet meals out of corpses (Best Leftovers Ever!). While I haven't seen either of these, I know Netflix has some great original reality shows you won't want to miss.

Here are seven of the best reality TV shows on Netflix. Be sure to add these originals to your TV watching routine.

Netflix

The Circle (2020-)

Social assume can feel like a game. So why not literally make it one? In The Circle, a group of social-media-savvy contestants try to be crowned the "highest rated" player. Contestants bring high-energy personalities and their own game-winning strategy -- choosing to either play as themselves or "catfish" as someone entirely different (or something in between those two extremes). They're sequestered in individual rooms and tasked with messaging their fellow contestants by way of a mask. The players periodically "rate" one another, and the highest-ranked pair gets to determine who to toss from the competition. It's a creative notion, and the show throws in plenty of twists to liven things up. Think it would be easy to spot those completely faking a personality online? You'd be surprised.

Netflix

Nailed It (2018-)

Boredom often sends me to the grocery detain to snag cake mix and a jar of frosting. The result of my elbow grease is a unimaginative, underwhelming heap, but that doesn't dull the experience. I mean, I still made something, and it even tastes pretty good. Nailed It gets the joy of amateur baking, and radiates it in an easily devourable half-hour. Three nonbakers compete to re-create professional cake pops, iced cookies and show-stopping, multitier cakes. Some hopefuls unveil truly disastrous-looking baked goods, but the show still applauds them for putting in the danger. The focus is on having a good time, not on actually replicating an impossible-looking confection. Charismatic judges Nicole Byer and Jacques Torres offer hilarious (but ultimately nice) assessments of the exhausted treats, making it easy to crack a smile.

Netflix

Blown Away (2019-)

Blown Away didn't launch out on Netflix. It first aired on a Canadian channel requested Makeful. But it's on the streamer now, inviting you to gain appreciation for a completely involving art form. Talented glassblowers face off in challenges and behindhand a theme, whether it's crafting a household item, an unusual cartoon character or a piece about climate change. Less crashed cast members are knocked off until a winner emerges. It's a familiar reality competition formula, but the define art that's brought from concept to creation is well-behaved sticking around for. Those who recognize glass sculptures only as exhausted products sitting in a gallery will take interest in the chance to peer gradual the scenes. Prepare to be mesmerized, and perhaps even inspired to get up and do something with your hands.

Netflix

Dating Around (2019-)

I've said it by, and I gladly will again: Dating Around is a must-watch for reality show fans. This entry to Netflix's catalog has a no-frills premise, which is saying something considering its wild company on the streaming platform (Too Hot to Handle, Sexy Beasts, Love Is Blind). Make no mistake, there's level-headed a lot to keep you invested in what's happening on shroud. Singles in New York and New Orleans share a night of drinks, dinner and conversation, giving rise both to unbearably awkward encounters and heavenly chemistry. The show's scaled-back feel allows its featured cast members to shine. Capturing the ambiance of late-night city spots, everything looks astounding. If I have to keep praising this show, I will. I'm desperate to get my glorious on season 3.

Netflix

Rhythm and Flow (2019-)

Cardi B, Chance the Rapper and Tip "T.I." Harris reflect this reality competition that sees young hopefuls compete to understand the next hip-hop superstar. We have to start off by mentioning those three -- a bulky part of the show's allure is the time we get to consume with them. The series' format feels similar to options like American Idol. There are live auditions in different cities, only some move on to compete again, etc. But it chops the total episode report by about half. Unsigned rappers are judged both on their vocal command and their stage presence as they step up and accomplish. Some of them are stellar, but the show really gets its drive from its big-name judges (and guest judges -- the expansive Snoop Dogg weighs in during the first episode). We know these figures, and we hang on every word they say. When Cardi B shares that she's looking for "one of us," it employing something, and it helps us to completely invest in the ride.

What is a secondary school, what is a second cousin once removed, what is a second chance community, what is a second chance apartment, what is woke, what is a caucus, what is a second chance foreclosure, what is rsv, what is a second mortgage and how does it work, what is a secondary consumer, what is a good credit score, what is ai, what is the iowa caucus, what is today s date, what is a second chance program for felons.

With The Last of Us episode 2 now available on HBO Max, Google added a creepy Easter egg to notorious the show. It's linked to the Cordyceps fungal outbreak that commanded the fictional world of the video game-inspired series to ruin.

If you Google "The Last of Us" on desktop or mobile, you'll see a red mushroom icon on the bottom of your browser window. Tapping it will see animated fungus grow onto the veil, with subsequent taps adding more and more. It's minute to three on mobile, but doesn't seem to stop on desktop.

You can fragment the image or tap the x to clear your veil, an option the show's characters likely wish they had.

Unlike the games, the TV show dives into the outbreak's origins. Episode 2, which aired Sunday, put the spotlight on the homely infected. And now they're getting into your Google discover, just to keep us all creeped out going pending next weekend's instalment.
